Most dogs are allowed to eat yogurt, but that does not mean they should. Yogurt is not toxic, but many pups will find it hard to digest because it contains lactose; many dogs have trouble with food containing lactose, such as cheese.
Can Dogs Have Yogurt?
Yogurt is high in calcium and protein; it can also act as a natural probiotic, which promotes a healthy digestive system. If you do decide to feed your pup yogurt, it should be plant free of natural and artificial sweeteners, as added sugars are not healthy and can be toxic for them.
When Choosing what yogurt to give to your pup, make sure that is plain and Greek-style since it has the lowest amount of lactose and will allow for easier digestion for your pup.
How Much Yogurt Should I Give My Dog?
Several different factors can impact how much yogurt your dog can ingest. If you know your dog’s nutritional needs and want to start adding yogurt to its diet, follow the 10 percent rule of only giving up to 10 percent of your dog’s daily calorie intake. As a general rule, experts recommend giving a maximum of 1 spoon to a small dog; medium dogs can have up to 2 spoons, while large dogs can have up to 3 spoons.
